Against a backdrop of cheering students at America's largest Christian university, Texas Senator Ted Cruz announced his candidacy for the White House on Monday in rural Virginia, peppering a 30-minute speech with conservative applause lines and a call to dismantle most of what Presdient Barack Obama has assembled since 2009. The 44-year-old tea party darling would be the third-youngest U.S. president in history if he were to be inaugurated in January 2007, placing him closer to the age of his audience Monday than any other top-tier GOP White House contender.
